A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday after a 10-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Kathini seasonal river in Ikutha, Kitui County.

According to police reports, the boy was in the company of other children on a swimming expedition when he was swept away by the waters.

A search was immediately launched, and his body was retrieved about 20 meters downstream from where the incident happened.

The body has since been moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further procedures, as investigations continue.

Authorities have cautioned parents and guardians in the region to closely monitor their children, especially around seasonal rivers, which pose a heightened risk during the rainy season.
