Tragedy struck on Sunday morning when three people were killed and three others seriously injured after a miraa-laden car collided with a boda boda along the Mwea-Embu highway.

How the Accident Happened

According to eyewitnesses, two vehicles ferrying miraa were speeding side by side from Ngurubani towards Makutano. One of the cars rammed head-on into an oncoming motorbike, which was overtaking a tuk-tuk.

The impact killed the motorbike rider and the driver of the miraa vehicle instantly. A pillion passenger sustained severe head injuries and later succumbed while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Victims and Injuries

Police confirmed that three others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment. Authorities have launched investigations into the crash, with speeding cited as a likely cause.

Road Safety Concerns in Mwea

The Mwea-Embu highway has recorded several fatal accidents in recent months, raising concerns about reckless driving, especially among miraa transporters who often drive at high speeds to beat market deadlines.

Police have urged drivers and boda boda operators to observe road safety rules to prevent further loss of life.
