Police in Seme are holding a 47-year-old woman accused of burning her 12-year-old son to death after he allegedly stole Ksh.150.

The suspect, identified as Jacinter Akinyi, is reported to have poured kerosene on the boy before setting him on fire at Nyamgun area. Neighbors who heard the child’s screams rushed to the scene, rescuing him and taking him to Kombewa Sub-County Hospital, where he was admitted with 90% burn injuries.

Despite efforts by medics, the boy succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. Doctors said the burns had severely damaged his upper body, hands, and groin.

Police Recover Evidence

Police officers who visited the scene collected a partially burnt shirt that the victim had been wearing during the incident.

The suspect has since been detained at Seme Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court.

Community Shocked

The incident has left residents of Nyamgun reeling in shock, with many calling for justice for the minor while condemning the act as inhumane.
