Kisii Governor Simba Arati has applauded President William Ruto for seeking to strengthen the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Speaking during this year’s Mashujaa day celebrations held at Marani grounds in Marani Sub-County, Arati, who is also ODM’s Deputy Party leader, urged the president to also consider registering as a party member, saying the move would assist the party to easily fulfil the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga ‘s vision of having a strong party for easier delivery of services to the people.

The governor put on notice those of the contrary opinion, saying the party had plans of fronting a presidential candidate to enable it either to form the next government, or be in the coalition that will win the election.

On his part, Kisii County Commissioner (CC) Joseph Kibet decried low voter registration turnout and appealed to eligible residents to register before the deadline.

Kibet also sent a stern warning to perpetrators of drug trafficking and illicit brews that the government would deal with them ruthlessly in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, Kisii residents have joined other Kenyans in mourning the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, even as the national flag was flown at half-mast during Mashujaa Day celebrations as per the presidential directive.

Both the governor and CC led the residents in observing a moment of silence after the entertainment, most of which was done in commemoration of the late former premier.

Arati noted that the nation will continue to celebrate the life of Raila, describing him as a visionary leader, a champion of democracy, and a beacon of hope for millions of Kenyans.

Arati said the passing of Raila leaves an indelible mark in our nation’s history because of his unwavering dedication to justice, democracy and unity among other values.

He observed that Raila was not only a politician, but also a symbol of courage in the face of adversity, a voice for the marginalised, and a tireless advocate for equity and fairness.

The governor  described Raila’s wisdom, mentorship, and steadfast integrity as guiding lights for those fortunate enough to have been nurtured by him.

He said ODM would commit to carrying forward Baba’s dream, embracing his call for unity that he so passionately championed.
