Police in Gatundu, Kiambu County, are investigating a tragic domestic incident in which a man allegedly attacked and killed his father following a family dispute in Gatukuyu village.
According to police reports, John Njuguna Ngugi succumbed to injuries inflicted by his son, who is said to have assaulted him using a piece of wood during a confrontation on October 20, 2025.
Ngugi was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was later moved to the local mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
The suspect was later arrested by locals as he attempted to flee and handed over to the police. Officers also recovered a wooden weapon believed to have been used in the assault.
“We have the suspect in custody and have secured the murder weapon. Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack,” said an officer familiar with the case.
Authorities say murder cases have been on the rise in the area, many of them linked to domestic feuds and land ownership disputes.
Police have vowed to intensify investigations and ensure all reported murder cases are prosecuted to curb the growing trend of family-related violence in Kiambu.
