A suspected intruder died after prison warders opened fire during a Kingongo Prison shooting in Nyeri on Thursday, November 27. Authorities say he attempted to break into a house inside the compound before officers confronted him.
Man Shot After Alleged Break-In Attempt
Prison officials reported that the man tried to access one of the residential houses at dawn. Warders challenged him, and when he attempted to flee, an officer shot him in the thigh.
The officers rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he died while receiving treatment.
Body Taken to Mortuary for Identification
The body was later transferred to the Nyeri mortuary. Officials are now working to identify the man and notify his family. A post-mortem examination will help establish the exact cause of death.
