Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo has been impeached after 23 out of 28 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) present voted in favour of a motion to remove him from office.
The impeachment motion, tabled by Bonyamatuta MCA Kimwomi Matwere, accused Governor Nyaribo of abuse of office, violation of legal procedures, and multiple instances of alleged misconduct in the running of county affairs.
Charges Against Governor Nyaribo
According to the motion, Nyaribo is accused of:
- Abuse of office
- Violating legal and administrative procedures
- Mismanagement of county resources
- Failing to uphold good governance standards
The 23 MCAs who voted for his removal said the governor’s actions had undermined accountability and transparency in county operations.
Five MCAs opposed the motion.
What Happens Next
Following the County Assembly’s decision, the impeachment will now be forwarded to the Senate, which will either uphold or overturn the removal after conducting its own hearings.
If upheld, Governor Nyaribo will be permanently removed from office and replaced in accordance with the Constitution. If overturned, he will resume his duties immediately.
The governor has not yet issued a formal public statement on his impeachment.
