Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has claimed that his official security detail has been withdrawn under unclear circumstances.
According to the governor, security officers assigned to guard his home, as well as those personally attached to him, were withdrawn at midnight—12:00 am on Wednesday.
Natembeya described the move as abrupt and unexplained, raising concerns about his safety and the motive behind the withdrawal.
Security Withdrawal Follows Violent Attack on Natembeya
The development comes just days after the governor was attacked by armed goons on Saturday, November 22, during a visit to Chwele Ward in Kabuchai, Bungoma County.
Natembeya said the assailants ambushed him and his team, forcing security officers to intervene. The incident heightened fears about his safety, making the withdrawal of his guards even more alarming.
Local leaders have condemned the attack, calling for thorough investigations and accountability.
Government Yet to Issue Statement
As of now, the national government and police authorities have not publicly responded to Natembeya’s claims. The alleged security withdrawal has sparked political reactions, especially as tensions rise ahead of upcoming by-elections in the region.
Natembeya maintains that the move poses a direct threat to his life and has urged authorities to restore his security immediately.
