Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale now alleges that the government has withdrawn his official security detail in what he believes is a politically motivated move.
Speaking to the press in Kakamega town on Tuesday, Khalwale said that all six of his bodyguards were recalled abruptly, without any prior communication or explanation from the authorities.
According to the senator, the sudden withdrawal amounts to political intimidation.
Khalwale Links Security Withdrawal to Upcoming By-Elections
Khalwale further claimed that the move is part of a wider plan by the government to intimidate opposition voices ahead of Thursday’s by-elections, where political temperatures have been rising.
His claims follow a similar allegation by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who announced earlier in the day that his security detail had also been withdrawn.
Khalwale said the actions appear coordinated and targeted at leaders perceived to be critical of the government.
Government Yet to Respond
The national government has not yet issued a formal statement addressing Khalwale’s or Natembeya’s claims, leaving questions about the motive and legality of the alleged withdrawals.
Khalwale insisted that such tactics would not deter him and urged state agencies to uphold fairness and protect all leaders irrespective of political affiliation.
