Gachagua Accuses Ruto and Kindiki of Trying to Divide Mt Kenya Ahead of 2027

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his criticism of President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, accusing the two leaders of attempting to divide the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at a rally in Nakuru on Saturday, Gachagua dismissed efforts he claimed were aimed at separating the Kikuyu, Embu and Meru communities, insisting that the wider Mt Kenya region remains united by shared political and social interests.

Gachagua Claims Ruto Wants to Split Mt Kenya

Gachagua accused President Ruto of attempting to divide the region as he seeks to consolidate political support ahead of the next election.

“Huyu Kasongo anapanga ndiyo arudi kutumaliza, lazima agawanye Mlima. Ati atoe Nakuru, sababu nyinyi si watu wa mlima. Mlima, Kasongo, hauna mipaka. Mlima ni jamii, mlima ni sisi, wale tunaongea vile tunaongea,” Gachagua said.

He further alleged that the President was seeking to separate the Meru and Embu communities from the broader Mt Kenya political bloc.

“Anataka ati agawanye Wameru na Waembu, awaondoe ati ndio atukalie. Wewe Kasongo, Mzungu mweupe, mweupe si wewe mweusi, alijaribu kugawanya sisi, akashindwa. Moi mwenyewe, miaka ishirini na nne, alijaribu kutugawanya sisi, akashindwa,” he said.

Gachagua warned that attempts to fragment the region would not succeed, comparing the alleged strategy to trying to cut down a mugumo tree using a razor blade.

“Wewe Kasongo, kugawanya mlima ni kama kukata mti wa mgumo na wembe, utajiumiza kidole,” he said.

Gachagua Targets Kindiki

The former Deputy President also claimed that Kindiki had been sent to Embu to mobilise elders and persuade them to distance themselves from the wider Mt Kenya political bloc.

Gachagua questioned whether Kindiki could successfully lead what he described as an effort to divide the region.

“Sasa ati ametuma Soprano huko Embu. Unajua Soprano? Yule bonoko. Ni bure si bure? Ati bonoko, ameita wazee wa Embu. Amewapatia fedha wazee wa Embu ati waondoke kwa mlima. Hao wazee wamechukua pesa, wamesema haiwezekani. Wamesema hawa ni kama watu wa Ol Kalou,” he said.

The claims about alleged payments to elders were not independently established in the remarks.

Gachagua maintained that the Kikuyu, Embu and Meru communities would remain politically united despite what he described as efforts to fragment their support ahead of the 2027 election.

His latest remarks come amid an increasingly heated political contest between him and the Kenya Kwanza administration, with both sides seeking to consolidate support across the Mt Kenya region.
