The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced the disbursement of a second batch of payments for verified pending claims of Sh10 million and below owed to healthcare providers by the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
The payments target healthcare facilities whose outstanding NHIF claims have undergone verification and received the required approval before settlement.
In a notice dated August 14, 2026, SHA confirmed that the second batch had already been disbursed to the affected healthcare providers.
“The Social Health Authority (SHA) informs healthcare providers that the second batch of payments for verified pending claims of KES 10 million and below arising from the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) have been disbursed,” the authority said.
SHA Verifies Claims Before Payment
SHA said the latest payments followed a claims verification and sign-off exercise aimed at establishing the validity of outstanding claims before releasing the funds.
Healthcare providers that have received payments under the second batch can access the list of beneficiary facilities through the SHA website.
The exercise is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to clear pending obligations inherited from NHIF following its replacement by SHA under the health sector reforms.
Healthcare Providers to Benefit
The settlement of outstanding NHIF claims is expected to provide relief to healthcare facilities that have faced financial pressure because of delayed payments for services provided to NHIF members.
Healthcare providers have previously raised concerns that unpaid claims affected their ability to purchase medicines, meet operational expenses and maintain uninterrupted services to patients.
The latest disbursement follows an earlier batch of payments, with SHA indicating that additional facilities with verified claims could receive funds as the settlement exercise continues.
“Regular updates will be issued as the payment process progresses,” SHA said.
SHA Opens Channels for Inquiries
Healthcare providers seeking clarification or wishing to raise concerns about the claims settlement process can contact SHA through its Treasury Department or the Director of Benefits and Claims.
The notice was signed by SHA Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi.
SHA said it would continue verifying pending claims to ensure that only genuine and properly supported claims are settled.
The authority is expected to issue further updates as additional batches of verified NHIF claims are processed and paid.
