Kakamega Police Boss Arrested Over A senior police officer in Kakamega County has been arrested and is under investigation over allegations involving the defilement of a 16-year-old girl.
The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Lumakanda Police Station, Wycliff Kwendo, was arrested after a report was filed at the station on September 27, 2026, under OB number 14/27/09/2026.
According to police records, the incident reportedly began after Kwendo allegedly contacted a family in Kambi Moto, Kipkaren River, claiming that a multi-agency security operation was about to take place in the area.
The officer allegedly advised the family to leave their home temporarily. The woman and her husband reportedly met him along the highway, after which he allegedly drove them to a local bar, claiming it would be safer for them to remain there until morning.
However, the woman reportedly became suspicious and persuaded her husband to return home.
Upon reaching their house, the couple allegedly found the door locked from inside. Their teenage daughter eventually opened the door, and the parents reportedly discovered the police commander inside the house.
A confrontation reportedly followed, with the officer allegedly asking the couple not to escalate the matter.
The mother reportedly noticed what appeared to be used and unused condoms inside the house and allegedly took them as potential evidence.
According to the police report, the officer allegedly drew his firearm and threatened the woman when she refused to surrender the items. He is also accused of taking the couple’s mobile phones and leaving KSh20,000 before fleeing the scene.
The teenage girl was subsequently reportedly found behind the house.
The matter was immediately reported to authorities, prompting Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers to visit the scene and preserve available evidence.
The minor was taken to Lumakanda Sub-County Hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment and undergoing forensic examination.
Western Region DCI boss Douglas Chikanda confirmed that the OCS had been arrested and was being held at Kakamega Police Station as investigations continue.
The allegations against the officer have not been determined in court, and investigations are expected to establish what happened and whether criminal charges will follow.
