Two children aged three and five have died after a fire broke out in their home in Ndenderu, Kiambu County.
The tragedy occurred at around 4pm on Saturday, September 19, in the Catholic Church area of Ndenderu.
Police said the children were inside a semi-permanent house made of timber and iron sheets that their 24-year-old mother had rented.
According to police, the mother had left the children alone in the house at around 7am before reporting to work at a supermarket in Ndenderu Market.
The fire was later extinguished by the Kiambaa Fire Brigade with the help of police officers and members of the public.
The cause of the fire had not been established by the time of reporting, with investigations underway to determine how the blaze started.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the bodies of the two children were moved to SDA Mortuary in Kihara, where they were awaiting postmortem examinations.
The incident has left the children’s mother and family devastated as investigations continue into the heartbreaking tragedy.
