Kenyan musician Bahati has spoken out after a viral video emerged of an elderly woman claiming to be his biological mother, a revelation that has stirred widespread debate and emotional reactions online.
The video, which has been circulating on multiple social media platforms, shows the woman pleading with Bahati to forgive her and look for her. She claims she gave him up to a children’s home years ago because she was unable to raise him due to financial hardship.
Bahati responded to the viral clip by reposting it on his Instagram page, where he expressed shock and confusion over the woman’s claims.
“ But my mum died over 25 years ago. I personally attended the burial and witnessed her grave . This woman has confused me more. So what should I do?” he wrote.
In the video, the woman—speaking in Kiswahili—emotionally addresses the singer, saying:
“Bahati mimi mamayako… nakuja kukuomba msamaha. Najua uliambiwa mamako alikufa kitambo, na si kupenda kwa hao watu wakuambie hivyo. Mi nilikuzaa na nikakupeleka children’s home kwa sababu sikua na uwezo. Nakuomba msamaha, ukuje unitafute nikuombe msamaha.”
The claim has sparked intense discussions among fans and the general public, with many calling for a DNA test while others caution against exploiting personal trauma for social media attention.
As the story continues to unfold, Bahati has yet to indicate his next steps regarding the woman’s assertions.
