Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo will be laid to rest on December 30, 2025, his family has confirmed, bringing clarity to burial arrangements following his sudden death in a road accident.
Speaking on behalf of the burial committee, former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri said the family reached the decision after extensive consultations, noting that Jirongo’s multiple residences had initially raised questions about his final resting place.
“We have agreed on the burial date, which is tentatively set for December 30, 2025. Because the former MP had several homes, there were questions about where he would be buried,” Khaniri said.
The family has now resolved that Jirongo will be buried at his Lumakanda home, where his parents were also laid to rest.
“We agreed as a family that he will be buried at his Lumakanda home, next to his father and mother’s grave,” Khaniri added.
Jirongo, 64, died on Saturday, December 13, 2025, following a fatal road accident in the Karai area of Naivasha, Nakuru County.
According to police, the former legislator was driving his private vehicle along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway at around 3:00 a.m. when it collided head-on with a passenger bus.
Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Sarah Chumo confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations indicate Jirongo was driving from Nakuru towards Nairobi at the time of the crash.
His death has drawn widespread condolences from political leaders and Kenyans across the country, many remembering him as a bold politician who played a key role in Kenya’s multiparty politics.
