Authorities in Nairobi are investigating a tragic drowning incident in which a 25-year-old man, Peter Kariuki, died at a swimming pool in the Utawala area on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police reports, Kariuki had gone to Jathniel Swimming Pool for a swimming session and had asked his brother to record a video of him swimming shortly before the tragedy occurred.

Police said that while in the pool, Kariuki reportedly went underwater and failed to resurface. He was quickly pulled out of the water while unconscious.

Bystanders and family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers from the Ruai Police Station visited the scene as part of an ongoing investigation to establish what may have led to the drowning. The body has since been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other formal procedures.

This latest incident adds to the rising number of drowning cases reported across the country, prompting renewed calls for strict safety measures at recreational swimming facilities.
