Two Iranian nationals have been arrested by police after being linked to a theft incident at a mobile phone shop in Thika, Nairobi County.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects—56-year-old Heidari Mansoior Eslam and 40-year-old Babaei Ahmad Mirzaaga—approached a mobile phone shop while posing as customers. However, the shopkeeper recognised them as suspects involved in a similar robbery that had taken place about a month earlier.
As suspicion grew, the shopkeeper alerted a colleague who arrived at the scene and positively identified the two men as the individuals who had previously robbed him of Sh15,000. The colleague raised an alarm after confronting the suspects.
“The other shopkeeper positively identified the two foreigners, as he was indeed a victim of their stupefying tactics, which had left him Sh15,000 poorer a month ago,” the DCI said in a statement.
Police officers responded promptly and rescued the suspects from an irate crowd before taking them into custody.
The two suspects are being held at Thika Police Station pending arraignment in court as investigations continue.
