DJ Evolve, whose real name is Felix Orinda, has once again become the subject of public discussion after Kenyans revisited the 2020 shooting incident that drastically changed his life.
The renewed attention followed remarks by Babu Owino, who recently spoke about supporting Evolve’s medical treatment over the past six years.
The shooting incident occurred at B Club while the two were socialising and later became one of Kenya’s most closely followed legal cases after CCTV footage emerged online.
Following the incident, Babu Owino entered into a plea bargain agreement in which he committed to paying DJ Evolve’s medical expenses and providing housing support.
The attempted murder charge against the legislator was withdrawn in 2021, while he was later acquitted of a separate firearm misuse charge in 2023.
A resurfaced video of DJ Evolve reflecting on his recovery journey has since touched many Kenyans online.
In the clip, Evolve described how the life-changing experience forced him to relearn everyday life while also discovering new interests, including coding and technology.
“You have to learn life again,” he said.
Despite remaining in a wheelchair, the entertainer explained that he has focused on rebuilding his life and staying productive rather than dwelling on his physical condition.
He also revealed that he still maintains a strong passion for DJing and hopes to combine music with his newly acquired skills in future projects.
DJ Evolve further recounted one of the most difficult moments during his recovery, revealing that he temporarily lost his ability to speak while hospitalised.
“I stopped speaking while I was in the hospital. I just woke up one day, and I was whispering,” he recalled.
According to Evolve, the inability to communicate made recovery emotionally difficult, especially when trying to express his needs to caregivers and family members.
He later regained his voice, describing it as one of the major milestones in his healing process.
The entertainer also credited physiotherapy with helping him gradually regain upper body movement and the ability to feed himself independently.
Evolve said faith and prayer have played a major role throughout his recovery journey.
“Most of my strength has come from God,” he said, adding that the experience deepened his spiritual life and helped him overcome many challenges.
His story has continued to inspire many Kenyans, with social media users praising his resilience and determination despite the life-altering injuries.
