Kelvin Kiarie returned to Kenya after winning two gold medals at the African Skating Championship in Cairo.

Kiarie secured gold medals in both the Freestyle Battle and Classic Slalom categories, marking a major achievement for Kenya in the continental skating competition.

However, despite the accomplishment, the skater was reportedly received only by close family members upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The subdued reception has sparked conversations online, with some Kenyans questioning the level of recognition and support given to athletes competing in lesser-publicised sports despite bringing international honours to the country.

Kiarie’s performance in Cairo added to Kenya’s growing presence in alternative sporting disciplines beyond the country’s traditional dominance in athletics.
