Kisii, Kenya — May 21, 2026, 11:35 AM: Richard Onyonka has responded to critics questioning his marriage to former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioner Roselyn Akombe, publicly defending their long-term relationship and praising all his wives.
The senator made the remarks during a memorial mass held in honour of his late mother, Teresia Nyaboke Omoke, at his home in Kisii County.
The revelation has sparked widespread discussion online and across political circles, particularly given Akombe’s former role at the IEBC and her visibility in Kenya’s political landscape — an issue generating attention in Sauce.co.ke Politics and Entertainment News.
Onyonka Reveals Akombe Is His Wife
Speaking during the memorial service, Onyonka disclosed that Akombe is his wife and revealed details about his family life.
The senator, who openly described himself as polygamous, stated that he has twelve children with known mothers and promised Kenyans they would meet them during his mother’s upcoming burial ceremony.
He also expressed gratitude to Akombe for the role she played in caring for his late mother during her medical treatment in the United States.
According to Onyonka, Akombe closely managed his mother’s treatment and remained supportive throughout the difficult period.
“We Have Been a Family for 15 Years”
In an interview later shared on TikTok, the senator further clarified speculation surrounding his relationship with the former IEBC commissioner.
“Akombe is doing good, they are in New York. She returned to work while the child is back in school. We are fine. We have been a family for the last 15 years,” Onyonka stated.
The Kisii senator also explained that Akombe primarily resides in Kitale when in Kenya, contrary to public speculation that she lived in Kisii.
“In Kenya, Akombe is the one who lives in Kitale. I usually pass by before coming to Kisii to see the kids and return to Nairobi to continue with work. All my wives are wonderful people and helpful,” he added.
Emotional Tribute to His Late Mother
Onyonka also paid tribute to his mother, describing her as the foundation of their family and a pillar of strength.
The 81-year-old reportedly passed away at Aga Khan University Hospital after receiving treatment.
The senator’s emotional remarks drew attention from mourners and online audiences alike, with many commenting on his openness about his family structure and relationships.
Akombe Remains a Recognisable Political Figure
Roselyn Akombe became nationally and internationally known during Kenya’s 2017 election period while serving as an IEBC commissioner.
She later resigned from the commission ahead of the repeat presidential election, citing concerns over the credibility of the electoral process.
Online Reactions and Public Debate
The senator’s remarks have generated mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans praising his openness while others questioned the public disclosure of his private family matters.
