Police in the Zambezi area have launched investigations into a tragic incident in which a mother is suspected of poisoning her children, leaving two dead.

According to preliminary reports, the woman allegedly administered poison to the children while they were at home.

Authorities said two of the children succumbed to the suspected poisoning, while the mother and another child, believed to be her niece, survived and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kikuyu.

Police confirmed that the children’s father was not at home when the incident occurred.

Investigators say the circumstances surrounding the suspected poisoning remain unclear, and efforts are underway to establish the motive behind the incident.

Officers who responded to the scene have since begun collecting evidence and recording witness statements as investigations continue.

The bodies of the deceased children are expected to undergo postmortem examinations to help determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities have urged members of the public to allow investigators time to establish the full facts surrounding the case.
