A 31-year-old man, who has been nicknamed the “Subaru Boy” on social media, is in police custody after he was allegedly caught sexually assaulting a 20-year-old university student inside his vehicle following an overnight ordeal.
According to police, the incident began shortly after midnight when the suspect reportedly met the student at Covo Club. He allegedly convinced her to get into his grey Subaru Legacy, registration KCB 177N, after promising to take her out for nyama choma.
Investigators say that once she entered the vehicle, the suspect locked the doors and drove to a secluded bushy area in Kizito, Mwihoko Township, where he allegedly held her against her will for more than seven hours.
Police allege that during the captivity, the suspect threatened to kill the student and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.
The ordeal reportedly came to an end at around 7:15 a.m. when police officers on routine patrol heard screams coming from the isolated location. Officers followed the cries and found the suspect inside the locked vehicle, where he was allegedly in the act of assaulting the victim.
The suspect was arrested at the scene, while the student was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical examination and psychosocial support.
Police have impounded the Subaru Legacy for forensic examination as investigations continue. The suspect remains in custody and is expected to face charges including rape, kidnapping and threatening to kill.
Authorities have urged members of the public, particularly those leaving entertainment venues late at night, to exercise caution and avoid accepting rides from strangers, even when the offers appear harmless.
