Rally driver Maxine Wahome has been acquitted of the murder of her late boyfriend, Assad Khan, after the High Court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case against her.

In its judgment, the court found that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had not presented sufficient evidence to sustain the murder charge.

The judge held that the evidence adduced during the trial fell below the legal threshold required to establish the offence of murder, leading to Wahome’s acquittal.

Wahome had been charged in connection with the death of Khan, who died after sustaining injuries during an alleged domestic incident. Throughout the trial, she denied the murder charge.

After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court concluded that the case had not been proved to the standard required in criminal proceedings.

With the acquittal, the High Court formally brought the criminal case against the rally driver to a close, ruling that the prosecution had failed to establish her guilt beyond the required legal standard.
