Morara Kebaso: Huge Political Crowds Do Not Automatically Mean Votes

Inject Party leader Morara Kebaso has cautioned against equating large political crowds with electoral success, arguing that popularity at rallies does not always translate into votes.

Reacting to the massive turnout witnessed during Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s recent political rally, Morara said Kenyan politics has repeatedly shown that enthusiastic crowds are not a guarantee of victory at the ballot.

According to him, several prominent leaders, including former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, former Chief Justice David Maraga and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, have also drawn impressive crowds at different times, only for public attention to shift elsewhere.

Morara observed that modern politics has become increasingly driven by trends, likening politicians to hit songs that dominate public conversation for a while before being replaced by the next sensation.

He argued that today’s generation often rallies behind leaders while they are “trending” but quickly moves on as new political figures emerge.

His remarks come amid growing excitement surrounding Edwin Sifuna, whose recent public appearances have attracted large crowds across different parts of the country.

The rallies have sparked widespread debate online, with many Kenyans interpreting the growing turnout as a sign that Sifuna is steadily positioning himself as the political successor to ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Some social media users have even suggested that the Nairobi senator has outgrown his current role in the Senate and should consider mounting a future presidential bid.

Whether the growing crowds will ultimately translate into political support at the ballot box remains to be seen as political realignments continue ahead of the next General Election.
