Senator John Methu Accuses Murkomen of Fueling Political Violence Ahead of 2027 Polls

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of fueling political violence, claiming his leadership poses a threat to peaceful elections ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, Methu alleged that individuals who disrupted an opposition church meeting in Witima, Nyeri County, were the same people who later caused chaos during the recently concluded Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

“The goons who attacked us in church in Witima, the very same people are some of those who came to Ol Kalou. Their faces are known. We have given their names to the Inspector General of Police. This is just a special school that he has outside the main National Police Service,” Methu said.

The senator alleged that the group operates as a parallel militia outside the National Police Service, questioning how the Interior Ministry could guarantee the country’s security if such groups were allowed to exist.

“How therefore would you say that you are the Minister for Interior or Minister for our own internal security and you are running a parallel militia that is meant to deal with other people politically?” he posed.

Methu insisted there was no security threat in Ol Kalou that would have justified the violence witnessed during the by-election, maintaining that the incidents were politically orchestrated.

He also declared that the opposition remains determined to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

“Once our people are determined to take William Ruto home, nothing will stop us from taking him home,” he said.

His remarks come in the wake of violence that disrupted voting in Ol Kalou Constituency on Thursday, July 16, where journalists were assaulted, cameras confiscated and teargas fired at several polling stations during the final hours of voting.

Despite the unrest, the electoral process was completed, with Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho emerging victorious after securing 35,440 votes.

The government has since directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the violence and establish the identity of those responsible.
