Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has explained how he gathers information on government affairs, saying he relies on a wide network of informants across the public service and only shares intelligence after thoroughly verifying it.

Speaking during a podcast interview with political analyst Herman Manyora on Friday night, Gachagua said his sources include civil servants, police officers, National Intelligence Service (NIS) personnel and employees working in state corporations.

According to the former Deputy President, he places great importance on verifying information before making it public, arguing that his credibility depends on the accuracy of the claims he makes.

“I also have a lot of information and I sometimes don’t rush into it. I do a lot of cross-checking because the day I mislead Kenyans, I’ll lose my credibility,” he said.

Gachagua disclosed that he has encouraged his contacts within government institutions to only share information that can be independently confirmed.

“I have asked civil servants, police officers, National Intelligence Service officers and people working in parastatals to preserve my credibility by giving me information that is verifiable,” Gachagua said.

He also noted that safeguarding the identities of those who provide him with information is essential to maintaining the trust of his sources and ensuring a continued flow of intelligence.

Since falling out with President William Ruto’s administration, Gachagua has increasingly used media interviews, podcasts and political rallies to make claims about the operations and decision-making within government. His latest remarks come amid continued political tensions between him and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
