Suspected thieves broke into two neighbouring churches in Muragara, Kirinyaga County, and made away with electronics and other valuables in a Wednesday night incident.

The break-ins occurred at ACK Muragara and PCEA Muragara churches, with the suspects reportedly targeting property belonging to the congregations.

At the ACK church, members said valuables worth more than KSh400,000 were stolen during the incident.

Suspects Consume Communion Elements

The suspects reportedly went beyond stealing property, allegedly consuming Holy Communion elements and sacramental wine while inside the churches.

The unusual incident has left members of the congregations shocked, with church leaders and residents calling for increased security around places of worship.

Churches Targeted Across Kirinyaga

The latest break-ins have also raised concerns among church communities in Kirinyaga, coming amid a reported increase in attacks targeting churches across the county over the past three weeks.

Authorities are expected to investigate the incidents and pursue those behind the break-ins as affected churches assess the extent of the losses.
