A three-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and later found murdered in Busia District after her family failed to meet a ransom demand that reportedly rose from Sh2 million to Sh7 million.
Nabwire Everlyn, a resident of Bubolwa Village in Bulumbi Sub County, reportedly went to play with other children at a neighbour’s home on September 24, 2026. When her mother returned home and could not find her, she contacted the girl’s father, Ouma David, who said he had left the child playing at the neighbour’s home.
The parents reportedly went to the home of a man identified by police as Bwire Edrine, who allegedly became hostile when questioned about the girl’s whereabouts.
Later that night, Bwire allegedly contacted the girl’s father and claimed to have his daughter. He reportedly demanded Sh2 million for her release, before increasing the ransom to Sh7 million the following day.
The family subsequently reported the matter to police.
In the early hours of September 26, the girl’s father reportedly received a distress call informing him that his daughter’s body had been dumped along the Jinja Highway in Bulumbi.
Police officers arrived at the scene and deployed a sniffer dog, which reportedly led investigators for about half a kilometre towards the home of another man, identified as Muhwana Lawrence. He was arrested to assist with the ongoing investigations.
The child’s body was recovered and taken to Masafu Government Hospital mortuary.
According to Bukedi South Police spokesperson Moses Mugwe, the girl had several injuries, including cuts to her left waist, thigh and left shoulder, bruises on her right knee and a deep cut to the back of her head.
Police are continuing investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping and murder and determine the involvement of those arrested.
