UDA Party Secretary General Hassan Omar has called on people from Kenya’s Coast region to overwhelmingly support President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, arguing that the region must secure a place in the next government.
Speaking on the political importance of Coast votes, Omar said the region must do everything possible to ensure Ruto wins by a large margin in 2027.
“As people from the Coast, we must be part of the next government; therefore, we must do everything possible to vote for President Ruto overwhelmingly in 2027.”
Omar also made controversial remarks about voter registration, urging people to collect identification details from deceased individuals.
“Right now if someone dies, collect their IDs and fingerprints; they will be voters in 2027.”
He linked the push to securing government positions and development projects for the Coast region, saying strong electoral support would help the region gain Cabinet representation and attract more development.
The remarks are likely to attract scrutiny given that using a deceased person’s identification documents or fingerprints for voting would be unlawful and could undermine the integrity of an election.
Omar’s comments come as political parties and leaders intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, with different regions being urged to consolidate their votes in pursuit of political influence and government representation.
