NAIROBI, Kenya — A lawyer allegedly threatened to jump from the eighth floor of his office in Westlands, Nairobi, while attempting to evade arrest over alleged forgery, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has said.

The lawyer was arrested at his office following a directive from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) instructing police at Parklands to charge him over allegations of forgery and uttering a false document.

According to the DCI, the ODPP directive followed investigations into a complaint concerning documents the lawyer allegedly presented before the Employment and Labour Relations Court.

Lawyer Allegedly Presented Forged Documents in KSh150 Million Claim

The DCI alleged that the lawyer presented documents bearing forged signatures in an attempt to support a claim that he was entitled to KSh150 million.

According to investigators, the lawyer purported that the complainants had signed a Change of Signatory & Fee Note Agreement, authorising payment of the amount to him upon the conclusion of a case in which he claimed to have represented them.

However, the complainants reportedly disputed ever signing or executing the agreement.

The disputed documents, together with specimens of the complainants’ known signatures, were subsequently submitted to a forensic document examiner for analysis.

Forensic Report Allegedly Found Documents Were Forged

The DCI said the forensic examination concluded that the documents presented before the court were forged.

According to the investigators, the findings supported the complainants’ claim that the signatures appearing on the disputed documents were not theirs.

Following the investigations, a directive was issued on September 2, 2026, for the lawyer to be charged with two counts of forgery and uttering a false document.

Lawyer Allegedly Threatened to Jump From Eighth Floor

The DCI said the suspect was summoned to present himself at Parklands Police Station but failed to do so.

Police subsequently launched a manhunt and eventually traced him to his office in Westlands.

According to the DCI, officers found the suspect at the office, where he allegedly threatened to jump from an eighth-floor window in an attempt to avoid arrest.

The officers eventually managed to arrest him.

DCI Alleges Lawyer Bit Two Police Officers

The DCI further alleged that the lawyer resisted being handcuffed after his arrest.

According to investigators, he allegedly bit two police officers who were attempting to restrain him.

The DCI said the lawyer will therefore face additional charges of resisting arrest and assaulting police officers, alongside the two forgery-related charges that had already been approved.

The allegations will now be subject to the legal process, where the suspect will have an opportunity to respond to the charges.
