Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana and his wife, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga, are mourning the death of their 8-year-old daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana, after years of health struggles.

In a family statement issued on September 13, 2026, the family announced that Amal died while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga, Nairobi.

“It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hon. Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana and his wife, Hon. Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announce the passing of their last-born daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana.”

According to the family, Amal had battled health challenges since she was born and received treatment both in Kenya and abroad.

Despite her struggles, she remained a source of happiness and love for her family whenever her condition improved.

“Amal had struggled with her health since she was born 8 years ago, and received treatment both in Kenya and abroad. We thank God for the wonderful smiles and love that she brought to the whole family whenever she was doing well.”

The family has gathered at their home in Ngao Village as they make arrangements to lay Amal to rest.

Amal is scheduled to be buried on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Ngao Village.

Her death has left the Mungatana and Chidzuga families mourning the loss of their youngest daughter after years of hoping and praying for her health.
