Detectives have arrested 23-year-old Walter Kipkoech, the main suspect in the murder of 18-year-old Joy Wangui, a Form Four student at Molo Secondary School.

Kipkoech was arrested at a hideout in Lagwenda village, Kuresoi North, following a sustained manhunt by detectives investigating Wangui’s death.

Wangui was found dead at her family home in Kiambaa, Moto Location, where her body was discovered in the kitchen. Her severed head was reportedly found inside the house.

Police also recovered an axe, panga and knives at the scene, with the weapons reportedly bearing bloodstains.

Police probe possible relationship dispute

Detectives had identified Kipkoech as Wangui’s boyfriend and were investigating a possible relationship dispute as part of efforts to establish the motive behind the killing.

Following his arrest, Kipkoech was taken to Molo Police Station, where he is being held as detectives continue with investigations.

Police are expected to present him in court as investigations into the circumstances surrounding Wangui’s death continue.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
