Presidential hopeful David Maraga has pledged to make integrity, accountability and the protection of public resources central to his government if elected in the 2027 General Election.
Maraga, the United Green Movement (UGM) presidential flagbearer, made the remarks while addressing his supporters in the United States, where he has been engaging Kenyans during a three-week diaspora tour. His campaign platform highlights transparency, accountability and the rule of law as key priorities.
Maraga promises action against corruption
Maraga said he would take firm action against corruption and would not allow members of his family or government officials to misuse public resources.
“I will not steal from you, my family to steal from you or those I work with to steal from you,” he said.
The former Chief Justice said Kenya’s laws and institutions had not done enough to prevent the loss of public resources, promising to protect taxpayers’ money if elected.
“We are talking about Singapore in Kenya. You know what Lee Kuan Yew did to make Singapore admirable,” he said.
Maraga added:
“Kenyans have not given that money to you to put it in your pocket. I will guard that for you.”
His campaign has consistently placed governance, constitutionalism, transparency and accountability at the centre of his presidential bid.
Maraga secures pro bono support from US firm
The US tour has also seen Maraga’s campaign secure pro bono support from Washington-based political advisory and advocacy organisation Vanguard Africa.
Documents filed under the United States Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) show that Friends of Maraga entered into an agreement with Vanguard Africa on September 2, 2026. The agreement was subsequently filed with the US Department of Justice.
Under the arrangement, Vanguard Africa will provide advisory, international advocacy and public engagement services aimed at elevating Maraga’s profile and ethical leadership, while supporting free and fair elections in Kenya.
The services include strategic advice and messaging, international advocacy and preparations around the United Nations General Assembly. The organisation may also facilitate outreach to US policymakers and congressional offices where feasible.
Agreement runs until November 30
Vanguard Africa will provide the services on a pro bono basis until November 30, 2026.
The two organisations are expected to hold a strategy meeting in December to review the arrangement and determine their next steps, including possible campaign priorities, staffing and other strategic needs.
The FARA filing indicates that the agreement does not provide for professional fees, although certain pre-approved expenses may be billed at cost.
Maraga’s US tour, which began in September, has taken him through several states as he engages Kenyans in the diaspora ahead of the 2027 General Election. He is scheduled to return to Kenya on October 5.
