A 20-year-old university student has died after he was allegedly stabbed by a fellow student in Murang’a town following an event at Murang’a University of Technology.
Kelvin Murimi, a second-year student at the university, was reportedly attacked at around 5am on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in the VM area while heading home from an event held at the institution.
Student reportedly named coursemate before death
According to police, Murimi indicated before his death that he had been stabbed by a coursemate.
Police officers from Murang’a Police Station, together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), later visited Murang’a Level Five Hospital after receiving reports of the incident.
Investigators established that the student had succumbed to his injuries.
Police said Murimi had sustained a deep stab wound on the left side of his abdomen and had suffered severe blood loss.
Police launch investigations
Murimi was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics at Murang’a University of Technology.
Scene-of-crime officers processed and documented the incident as detectives began investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing and identify the person responsible.
His body was moved to the Murang’a Level Five Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.
Police investigations are ongoing.
