Riara University has launched an internal review after a video circulating online appeared to show several women threatening and assaulting another woman in a public bathroom.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 2, the university said it had been informed that some of the individuals featured in the video were reportedly students at the institution.

“It has come to our attention that some of the individuals depicted in the video are reportedly students at Riara University,” the statement read.

The university condemned the alleged conduct, saying it does not condone violence, intimidation, bullying or harassment.

“Riara University unequivocally condemns violence, intimidation, bullying, harassment or misconduct in any form,” the institution said.

Incident allegedly happened off-campus

Riara University said the incident was reported to have occurred away from its premises.

However, the institution noted that the conduct of its students outside campus could still have implications under its student disciplinary framework.

“While the alleged event occurred off-campus, such behaviour directly contradicts our institutional values and our code of conduct for students,” the statement further read.

The university said its leadership had commenced an internal review in accordance with its Student Code of Conduct and institutional policies.

“The University leadership has initiated an internal review of the matter in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct and institutional policies, and we are committed to cooperation with investigative authorities,” the statement concluded.

Viral video sparks calls for action

The university’s response came after social media users called for action against individuals allegedly involved in the harassment of Jahenda, a social media personality.

The incident reportedly occurred in a club restroom, where Jahenda was allegedly surrounded by a group of women. A video circulating online appears to show some of them recording the confrontation while laughing.

One woman, identified online as Vania, is seen allegedly pushing Jahenda, grabbing her around the throat and issuing threats.

“Get back here! Run! Move, before I kill this b*tch, move!” she is heard saying in the video.

The woman is then allegedly seen cornering Jahenda and ordering her to move.

“I told you to run! move move jog… Jogging over here. Jog on the fu**ing spot!” she is heard saying.

The footage triggered widespread reactions online, with users calling for accountability and urging Riara University to investigate the identities and conduct of any students involved.

The university has not announced any disciplinary action against specific students. Its internal review is ongoing, and the allegations shown in the circulating video have not been independently established.
