Several employees at Royal Media Services (RMS) have been admitted in critical condition after eating food prepared for them within the company’s premises in Nairobi.

Sources say that at least five employees are currently in hospital over suspected food poisoning.

The employees started complaining of stomach pains on Monday evening after consuming food prepared for them by a catering company contracted by Royal Media Services.

Highly placed sources have said that one of the employees has sadly died.

Those affected are employees who were working during the Christmas shift. RMS had contracted the firm to prepare for them a buffet meal as they were working so that they felt being part of the Christmas festivities.

Royal Media Services is the leader in the TV and radio market, with more than 50% market share in both segments. Its Citizen Radio tops national listenership ratings, while Citizen TV is most viewed TV station followed by its vernacular (Kikuyu) TV station, Inooro.

These stations, alongside other vernacular FMs across the market, rake in millions in advertising revenue every day
