A family in Makueni county has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of their daughter in Saudi Arabia just five months after she went to work in the Middle East.
Gloria Mutuku is reported to have died while receiving treatment in a hospital in Saudi Arabia but no one knows what she was being treated for.
According to the Daily Nation, the news of Gloria’s death was confirmed to the family by Grace Wachuru, the agent who connected Gloria with her employer.
The family is now demanding for justice.
“We oppose the plan by the agency to bury Gloria in Saudi Arabia,” said James Kituna, Gloria’s uncle who raised her after her parents died when she was a baby.
“Such a move will disturb the family forever. We are asking the government to intervene and help us move the body of the deceased home for burial,” he said.
Gloria’s death comes just five months after she left Kenya to work as a house help in Saudi Arabia.
“Since we are orphans, we expected Gloria to be the pillar of our family. we hoped she would earn enough money to educate her siblings, build us a nice house and pull the family out of poverty,” said her sister Eunice Ndinda.
Gloria has left behind her two-year-old son and eight siblings.
