A middle-aged man was on Friday arraigned at a Kabarnet court charged with killing a sheep belonging to a neighbour.

Andriano Naiweti who appeared before Chief Magistrate Judith Wanjala was charged with killing an animal with intent to steal contrary to section 289 of the penal code.

Naiwet is accused that on February 2, 2023, between 1 pm and 2:30 pm at Ilng’arua Sub Location, Baringo South within Baringo County killed a female sheep valued at Ksh 8,000 property of Collins Salaja.

When the charges were being read to him, the accused denied claiming it was not intentional.

“Your honour I did not kill the animal, I was just cutting a nearby tree before it accidentally fell on the sheep,” the accused defended himself.

The suspect was then accused with an alternative charge of handling stolen goods contrary to section 322 (1)(2) of the penal code which he also denied.

The Chief Magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody at Kabarnet police station for three more days before the court determines his bond terms.

The hearing of the case has been slated for February 14, 2023, where four witnesses will testify.

Meanwhile, at the same court, a 28-year-old man was charged with stealing medicinal drugs worth Ksh 150,000 and a gas cylinder.

According to the charge sheet, Wycliffe Wanyama committed the offence on October 24 last year at Kapluk centre in Baringo North Sub County where he unlawfully stole Pharmaceutical drugs valued at Ksh150,000 and a gas cylinder valued at Ksh3500 the property of Charles Ruto.

Wanyama pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.

The court heard that the suspect who was arrested on February 2 this year had disappeared after committing the offence and was on police radar for quite some time.

The court will after three days determine if Wanyama will be released on bond or not.
