President William Ruto has hit back at Azimio la Umoja saying he will not be intimidated by their ultimatums.
The President who was speaking just hours after opposition leader Raila Odinga gave the government a 14-day ultimatum to bring down the cost of living said that Azimio is free to protest until it gets tired.
Raila had today afternoon called for mass action if the government does not yield to their demands.
“These are hypocrites who flock the church every Sunday but after that they are the biggest sinners,” said Raila at the Jevanjee Gardens in Nairobi where he led prayers today.
Ruto who this evening launched the Nairobi River Commission in Korogocho, Nairobi, has said that the cost of living will gradually go down and not within days as Azimio wants.
“Kwa hivyo hawa jamaa watulize boli. Ati wanataka kututisha na maandamano, watafanya maandamano mpaka watachoka,” said Ruto.
“I want to tell our friends who are used to impunity, who are used to forcing their way because this is going to be a country based on the rule of law and nobody is going to threaten Kenyans,” said the president.
The President further pointed out that Azimio was part of the handshake government when the cost of living was left to spiral out of control so they have no moral authority to lecture Kenya Kwanza.
“You had five years, the cost of unga rose to Sh230, we have reduced it to Sh180. Let them give us the time it will come to Sh140,” Ruto said.
“Wawache kimbelembele, walikuwa na nafasi yao wakaharibu.”
