Jamaican dancehall artist Leroy Rusell Junior, popularly known as Tommy Lee Sparta, has been released from prison.

Tommy was freed from the Horizon Remand Centre in Kingston on Thursday, March 23 after serving only two years in prison.

In March 2021, the ‘Soul reaper’ hitmaker was sentenced to three years in jail for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The entertainer had been arrested on December 14, 2020, after a vehicle in which he was traveling was intercepted by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Specialised Operations.

The men in the vehicle were searched and a 9mm Glock pistol with an extended magazine containing 18 rounds of ammunition was found in the dancehall star’s waistband.

In March 2021, Tommy Lee Sparta was sentenced to a total of five years in prison in relation to the seizure of an illegal gun.

The courts sentenced the ‘Blessings’ singer to three years imprisonment for illegal possession of a firearm and two years for illegal possession of ammunition.

He had pleaded guilty to the offenses.

The sentences ran concurrently, so he was only to serve three years.
