Nine Nigerian nationals escaped death when a mob almost lynched them after suspecting them of engaging in witchcraft. The foreigners were conducting prayers within the Kangokii area in Makongeni, Thika when locals who thought they were conducting rituals attacked them on Sunday afternoon.

The agitated mob gave the foreigners a thorough beating as they called on other members of the public to assist in lynching them. Police officers who were patrolling the area at the time rescued the Nigerians and ferried them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

When interrogated, the Nigerians strongly refuted the claims made by the locals and insisted that they were conducting prayers.
