It is said that the suspect had sneaked into the bedroom of the 77-year-old woman before being caught in the act by the victim’s son, who had gone to check on his mother at around 11pm.

According to police, the son’s arrival prompted Muema to escape leading to a chase.

Luckily, the suspect had left behind his pair of trousers and shoes, making it easy for the search team to trace him in the wee hours of today morning.

Both the suspect and the victim were escorted to Mbiuni level 4 hospital where medical tests indeed confirmed that the victim had been raped.

The suspect is currently in custody and being processed to face rape charges, police said.
