Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure has claimed that Kilifi Cult leader Paul Mackenzie used armed gangs to kill his followers who took too long to die and those who tried to change their minds.
Kindiki testified before a Senate ad hoc committee on the growth of religious organizations that armed gangs erected buildings next to the cemeteries and maintained well-balanced food while keeping an eye on followers who were starving to death.
Police have been combing the vast Chakama Ranch since last month. They have exhumed more than 200 bodies so far.
The majority of the bodies, according to the police, are believed to be those of Mackenzie’s followers who were allegedly told to starve to death “to meet Jesus.”
According to the leading government pathologist Johansen Oduor, although malnutrition appears to be the primary cause of death, some of the deceased, including children, were strangled, beaten, or suffocated.
Police claim that the cult was collecting body parts from their victims, according to court documents that were earlier this month submitted in court. Some of the corpses had their organs removed, according to the documents.
Without elaborating, he claimed that it is “believed that trade on human body organs has been properly planned involving multiple parties.”
