Around 500,000 condoms will be made available to enthusiasts attending the World Rally Championships in Naivasha as a precautionary measure to promote safe sex.
Stanley Ngara, the founder of the King of Condoms initiative, which advocates for safe sex, confirmed the provision of these condoms.
He acknowledged the challenges in importing condoms due to high taxation but assured that they had secured 500,000 condoms from partners and sponsors specifically for the rally event.
During the five-day event, the primary objective is to educate people about safe sex, demonstrate proper condom usage, and distribute condoms to those in need.
Ngara highlighted the importance of this initiative considering the tough economic times, which have led to inflated prices for condoms, with some retailing for as high as Sh1,000 to Sh1,500, compared to the usual price of Sh50.
Recognizing the international nature of the Safari Rally, Ngara explained that they have partnered with event organizers to set up tents and create a presence.
He also mentioned that many non-governmental organizations that used to provide condoms ceased their shipments in 2019 due to various challenges and bottlenecks.
During the previous rally event, the influx of visitors caused traffic congestion in Naivasha, with people setting up camps along the roads and engaging in festivities late into the night.
