Sky Sports has recently taken severe cost-cutting measures, resulting in the departure of half of their football reporting team.
Among those affected is veteran interviewer Geoff Shreeves, who has been asked to accept a significant pay cut if he wishes to continue his tenure at the broadcaster where he has been employed since the inception of the Premier League in 1992.
Geoff Shreeves is currently assessing his options, as he could be eligible for a substantial redundancy package due to his 31-year tenure at Sky.
This may also attract offers from other organizations.
The rest of Sky’s decisions regarding the football reporting team were made following consultations on redundancies in April.
Out of the original 13-member team, six have been cut, with some individuals choosing to depart voluntarily, while others may be offered alternative roles.
Notable journalists like Guy Havord, Dickie Davis, Bianca Westwood, Greg Whelan, Lynsey Hooper, and Jaydee Dyer will no longer continue in their current positions.
Emma Saunders appears to be the only female reporter who has been retained, along with David Craig, Patrick Davidson, Jonathan Oakes, Johnny Phillips, and Luke Shanley.
Sky’s decision to downsize the football reporting team raises questions about the future of their flagship results program, Soccer Saturday, which currently lacks a presenter following Jeff Stelling’s confirmation that he will be leaving at the end of the season. Sky declined to comment on the matter.
