Kenyans last night breathed some relief as the energy regulator made a slight reduction in fuel prices from midnight.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Wednesday announced a decrease in the price of petrol by Sh0.66 per litre and diesel by Sh1.12 per litre for the fuel pricing cycle starting from June 15 until July 14. However, households will experience an increase in the pump price of kerosene by Sh0.35 per litre.
The recent price reduction means that in Nairobi, a liter of petrol will now be sold at Sh182.04, down from Sh182.7, while diesel will be priced at Sh167.28, down from Sh168.4. However, the price of kerosene will increase to Sh161.48 per liter, up from Sh161.13.
In Mombasa, motorists will pay Sh179.2 for petrol, Sh164.45 for diesel, and Sh158.65 for kerosene. In Nakuru, the prices will be Sh181.18 for petrol, Sh166.78 for diesel, and Sh161.01 for kerosene.
The price adjustments are based on the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products. The decrease in petrol and diesel prices is attributed to a 4.57% drop in the free-on-board price of Murban crude oil, which decreased from $83.36 (Sh11,645) per barrel to $79.55 (Sh11,113) in May.
