Members of the National Assembly, led by National Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah have threatened to impeach Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore.

The legislators have accused the Labour CS of defying directives from Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. Majority Leader Ichung’wah led the MPs in accusing CS Bore of treating the house with contempt. This is after the CS failed to appear in front of the house, despite two invitations from the Speaker.

Ichung’wah argued that her actions were arrogant considering that she had been vetted and endorsed by the same Members of Parliament she allegedly defied.

Ichung’wah expressed his disappointment and stated that he would not defend a Cabinet Secretary who had blatantly defied parliament. He highlighted that CS Bore had failed to show up on two occasions. This even after the house rescheduled her appearance.

The MP also criticized the letter she sent to the Speaker, which he considered contemptuous towards the house.

“I will not stand before my colleagues and defend a Cabinet Secretary of government who has blatantly defied the directives of the leadership of this house,” states Ichung’wah.

“The letter which she sent is full of contempt to the House. This is not a favor to anyone,” Ichung’wah continued.

Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi supported Ichung’wah’s sentiments, stating that CS Bore had a habit of disregarding MPs. Wandayi also stated that her behavior amounted to gross misconduct.

“I have received numerous reports that this particular Cabinet Secretary has a habit of disregarding Members of Parliament. For that reason, we will deal with her as per the Law,” said Wandayi.

Wandayi has also pledged to second a motion of impeachment against the CS.

“I will be the first person to second a motion of impeachment against CS Bore. What she has done is gross misconduct not just to the National Assembly but also against the people of Kenya who employed her,” Wandayi argued.

Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala also accused CS Bore of fomenting another scandal and promised a bitter impeachment process. Wanjala was referring to allegations against her surrounding the controversial acquisition of a house in Karen.

“There are a number of allegations against this particular Cabinet Secretary including something that happened in Karen. We now know what really happened against one of our own,” states Wanjala.

“We will defend our responsibility including calling on MPs to force her out of office for defying the orders and invitation of the Speaker,” Wanjala continues.

CS Bore had a fallout with Gatanga MP Edward Muriu around the purchase and ownership of the Karen house.

The CS claimed she had bought the house and paid a 10% deposit on the full amount with an agreement on how to clear the balance. However, the MP claimed the CS had forcefully occupied the house without paying a single cent.

The CS would, later on, be forced to vacate the house by neighbours and the estate management.

The MPs also expressed their intention to defend their responsibilities. They are now calling on fellow MPs to force CS Bore out of office for defying the Speaker’s orders.
