Mavoko MP, Patrick Makau, was apprehended in the early hours of Thursday at his residence in Karen, Nairobi.
The arrest took place at 4 am when detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a raid and subsequently transported him to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu road.
According to police sources, the MP’s arrest is linked to Wednesday’s violent demonstrations that resulted in significant damage to the Nairobi Expressway at the Mlolongo toll station.
Interior Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Kithure Kindiki last night criticized opposition leader Raila Odinga, accusing him of being responsible for the current state of lawlessness and impunity.
“From the 1982 attempted coup-de-tat to the 2007/08 post-election violence, this same politician and his collaborators, then and now, are associated with risky politics that has occasionally plunged our country into near destruction,” said Kindiki.
Furthermore, the Interior Secretary emphasized that individuals involved in the demonstrations, both directly and indirectly, would face legal consequences in accordance with the law.
Tragically, the protests resulted in the loss of at least nine lives, with four fatalities in Mlolongo, two in Kitengela, and one in Emali, Makueni County.
