Kakamega first lady Professor Janet Kasili Barasa has vowed take on sexual predators who pry on young girls. She has also declared war on people who perpetuate indecent acts on young girls.
Speaking in Kakamega, the first lady also castigated a local assistant Chief for allegedly preying on teenage girls for sex. Professor Kasili vowed to tackle increasing teenage pregnancies by dealing with the perpetuators.
Without mentioning the identity of the local administrator, Prof. Barasa noted that the Assistant Chief lures young girls by buying them phones. He is also said to entice innocent girls by giving them pocket money.
“I have received complaints about the Assistant chief and I cannot keep silent over the matter. We want our children to study, progress well in life, and eke a living,” she noted.
The Governor’s spouse urged parents to take care of their teenage girls, provide for their needs like sanitary pads, and be available to counsel them.
She said lack of access to sanitary towels is exposing some girls to vulnerabilities with men taking advantage of them. The perverts capitalize on filling those needs, to have sexual relations with them.
“They look for boyfriends to support them in buying sanitary towels. Once they purchase the towels, those boyfriends ask the young girls to pay back with sex,” she pointed out.
The first lady also warned bodaboda riders about taking advantage of young girls by offering them free rides. The young girls end up with teenage pregnancies while the young men disappear.
“I am also irked by a trend where grandfathers are defiling grandchildren. Please, men, if you are in need of a woman, look for someone who is mature. Keep away from children,” she added.
On the issue of handling cases locally, Prof. Kasili has also warned against solving problems through Kangaroo Courts, especially on issues involving children.
“Let us allow the law to take its course on issues involving children so that they can get justice. Those involved also need to face the law. I want us to reduce evil in society because many things are happening and we cover them up,” she noted.
Prof. Kasili said cases of teenage pregnancy are destroying the future of young girls. The girls are forced to quit school and look for ways to sustain themselves and their young ones.
