President William Ruto’s personal aide, Farouk Kibet, made a call on Sunday for the introduction and enactment of a law preventing teachers who partake in alcohol consumption from securing government positions.
While attending an event at a school in Uasin Gishu County, Farouk attributed the need for the suggested law to the essential role teachers play as role models for students.
He emphasized that teachers carry a fundamental responsibility to ensure they never engage in alcohol consumption while within school premises.
He specifically instructed National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to take the necessary measures to formulate and pass the relevant legislation.
“Those applying for teaching positions should have their alcohol consumption habits assessed as a priority during the interview process,” Kibet stated.
Farouk stressed that the primary purpose of students attending school is to acquire an education, an objective that can be disrupted by educators who occasionally consume alcoholic beverages.
